Friends and Crocodiles?

Image
Friends and Crocodiles No, this has nothing to do with the Damian Lewis movie —that I own but have never watched (I fell asleep and either did not try again or fell asleep again.) Par! This is about Crocodiles that are now being found in Kingston Harbour and its environs and the fear that their presence evokes, even from 3,000 miles distant. Growing up in Bournemouth Gardens makes me an expert on everything; ask my wife. However, this past summer Mr. Know-It-All was found wanting. This is because a dread story appeared, in the Jamaica Gleaner, I think, about a father who went fishing for fish and was himself fished for; taken by a Crocodile, in Portmore. Portmore may not be in Kingston Harbour, but I am willing to argue with those who say that it is not. It looks like it is, and now I know they have lots of crocodiles there, and that they have always been there, in its rivulets and lagoons. In my youth it was not so, or so I think, or thought, or remember. Are the numbers of

Points for Arrests; no laughing matter

The below was sent to the Attorney General for the State of California, Xavier Bacerra, by facsimile, today July, 25, 2018. It contains the essence of a similar communication that was sent to these government employees: Date: Wed, Jul 25, 2018 at 8:31 AM Subject: San Diego's Points for Arrests Program To: AB953 < ab953@doj.ca.gov >, David Nisleit < sdpdpolicechief@pd.sandiego.gov > Cc: Kelli Evans < kelli.evans@doj.ca.gov >, Nancy Beninati < Nancy.Beninati@doj.ca.gov >, About a year ago, the RIPA Board was in regaled, by Professor Khalid Alexander, about the derring-do of squads of police that would descend on neighbourhoods to arrest those "who were committing crimes." That the neighbourhoods were predomininantly populated by "people of colour" left no impression on the CA-DOJ; perhaps it is because what Alexander described is commonplace elsewhere. In March 2018, some in the San Diego's PD documented and incenti

I have done worse than  the title of this post; one that does no justice to a pair of distinguished military aviators (Gen. Chappie James and Col.Robin Olds.) The Sacramento pair have done nothing to distinguish themselves, but nonetheless have achieved a deserved degree of fame, rather infamy. The work of each of them, the deadly duo, part of a larger litany of iniquity The above are the results of the entire Sacramento P.D. follows; neither words or elaboration are necessary. Comparisons are impossible when Whites are not subjected to the action/activity. Ah! Richard Hylton Why Sacramento matters; especially now that the CA-DOJ claims to be "assisting" those in its "backyard" with the matter of the killing of Stephan Clark, who died in his grandmother's 1 message Richard Hylton Fri, Jul 20, 2018 at 12:22 PM To: AB953 <ab953@doj.ca.gov>, Kelli Evans <kelli.evans@doj.ca.gov> Cc: "Catherine Z. California’s Racial and Identity Profiling Advisory Board Releases First Annual Report On January 1, 2018 the Attorney General’s Office released the First Annual Report ; it left much to be desired. I will not take this opportunity to be comprehensive in criticism, instead I will be circumspect by addressing critical issues. How to Determine the “Denominator” [1] . This section of the report is lifted from a boiler-plate that was crafted by beguilers; the section is tripe, for it addresses stops alone (or should), even as it makes cursory mention of other post-stop actions. All who examine stops will note that this “no mean feat” only becomes a “feat” when the experiences on Blacks and Hispanics, in all their inglorious abomination, “shine plain.” Only then is there a need for “ those analyzing the data must first take into account factors that could legitimately explain and justify any apparent differences that may be observed.” No explanation is possible. Even, if there we

Berkeley; the bastion of progressive values?

April 26, 2018 Yesterday, I sent the within to the Mayor of Berkeley and others, in the mayor's office, as listed. Much nothing will come of it; not until Berkeley is sued for some  atrocity in policing. Believe me, it is just a matter of time. Doubtless we will have the usual protestations, denials and promises. The lot below shall not be able to say that they did not know of the rot; the oppression; the bias. Berkeley's data is, for want of a polite expression, piss-poor. This opinion may be partly driven by the fact that the data is not in the form that Berkeley represents it to be; that over 3,400 records have no demographic data, and that it leaves out some of the most basic, the most common, policing data elements. On the other hand, it carries data of other persons involved in the stop, but one cannot determine who is driver and who is passenger. It is, as it is, but it tells the same old story, and it tells plenty; albeit less vividly than most other places. Mayor

Sacramento; she will not let me go.

In one of my earlier rants, I mentioned that the City of Sacramento's Stop Data did provide the means of identifying the individualized conduct of its officers, and to that end I had sought that of the " Shootists " who had gunned down Stephon Clark, because he brandished a lethal cellphone with his back turned, whilst in his grandmother's backyard. It was a fool's errand, probably the result of tiredness, for I should have known better. As is par for the course, the city of Sacramento refused, citing an unsubstantiated claim of concern for officer safety. The city does know that a specific or particularized threat needs to exist for its invocation of the safety exclusion, but they also know that their resources are greater than mine. While waiting for the above; serendipity! In browsing a local Sacramento newspaper there was an account of the interaction of Sacramento PD officer Anthony Figueroa and 23 year-old Nandi Cain  in or around April 2017. I leapt at th
